Blogging for Bebe

Four weeks ago today, Bebe went on a ventilator. We never imagined this moment in our worst dreams, nor did we imagine how far this journey would take us. But through it all, we take comfort knowing God is with us.

Bebe is Gary's mom, Brenda - mother of two, grandmother of eight and married to the most devoted husband on the planet. She is lively, strong and filled with love for her family and God. Cooper adores his Bebe as do her other many grandsons, and we continually pray for her complete restoration and trust that we will all continue to enjoy many more days with her.

On July 9, Bebe was admitted to the hospital with double pneumonia. On July 12, she was rushed into the critical care unit and intubated because her lungs could no longer deliver the oxygen her body required. Bebe was diagnosed with ARDS, a life-threatening condition that essentially rendered her lungs useless. Since then, Bebe has undergone a series of tests and medical procedures, including a tracheostomy due to prolonged ventilation.

Today, Bebe is still on a ventilator after four long weeks, yet we know God is with her.

Today, we wait for Bebe to come back to us in this journey the doctor can only describe as a "marathon." Perhaps this is a lesson in patience. Perhaps it's a lesson in faith. Either way, we wait and know that God is working even when we might not see it.

Brenda's husband, Ed, has been entirely devoted to getting his wife well and is probably deserving of Saint-hood at this point. Yesterday he taped a scripture to the wall of her ICU room:

1 Peter 5:10 - And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

So by this verse we stand looking toward the future and know Bebe's health will be restored.

What can you do? Pray for Bebe's speedy return to health!
